    2023-07-26

To celebrate the seventh National Science and Technology Workers' Day in China, the "CCS - RSC Young Chemists Summit" was held online on the afternoon of May 30. The summit was jointly organized by the Chinese Chemical Society (CCS) and the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC).

The event invited four recipients of the 9th Chinese Chemical Society - Royal Society of Chemistry Young Chemist Award: Professor Chen Changle from the University of Science and Technology of China, Professor Zheng Jian from the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Yuan Quan from Hunan University, and Professor Hou Xu from Xiamen University. Additionally, two international young chemists, Professor Cinzia Casiraghi from the University of Manchester and Professor Max von Delius from the University of Ulm, also joined the online gathering.

The summit focused on scientific research, sharing cutting-edge academic achievements, and exchanging the latest academic ideas. Professor Shuai Zhigang, Vice President of the CCS, and Professor Paul Lewis, Chief Operating Officer of the RSC, attended the meeting and delivered speeches. The summit was co-chaired by Professor Hou Yanglong, Deputy Secretary-General of the CCS, and Professor You Shuli, Deputy Secretary-General of the CCS.

The summit consisted of two parts: academic presentations and interactive interviews.

During the academic presentation session, the six young chemists delivered their reports and answered questions from online audiences. Professor Chen Changle presented a report titled "High-Value Transformation and Upcycling of Polyolefins." Professor Zheng Jian delivered a report titled "Synthesis of a Monolayer Fullerene Network." Professor Cinzia Casiraghi presented a report titled "Water-based, Defect-free and Biocompatible 2D Material Inks: From Printed Electronics to Biomedical Applications." Professor Yuan Quan shared a report titled "Design of Aptamer-based Molecular for Bioanalysis and Biomedical Application." Professor Max von Delius gave a talk on "Pushing the Limits of Site-Selective Fullerene Chemistry." Professor Hou Xu shared a report on "Bioinspired Multi-Scale Pores/Channels."

During the interactive interview session, the four Chinese award recipients shared their personal experiences and insights. They sincerely and comprehensively discussed topics related to scientific research challenges, facing anxiety, conducting research planning, and cultivating students' growth, providing valuable insights to the audience.

The summit was live-streamed through various platforms, including the Chinese Chemical Society's video channel, the Royal Society of Chemistry's video channel, etc. The authorized reports from this summit will be included in the Cloud Library of the Chinese Chemical Society.
