On November 13, 2023, the Chinese Chemical Society held a ceremony at the College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering, Peking University, to confer the Honorary Fellow certificate to Professor Bert Weckhuysen. Professor Zhao Yuliang, Vice President of the Chinese Chemical Society, presented the certificate to Professor Bert Weckhuysen. The ceremony was presided over by Professor Ma Ding, Secretary-General of the Green Chemistry Commission of the Chinese Chemical Society.

Professor Bert Weckhuysen is an outstanding professor at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. He is well-known in the field of heterogeneous catalysis, especially for his outstanding contributions to the study of catalytic processes using in-situ spectroscopy techniques, as well as energy conversion and carbon dioxide conversion. He is a world-renowned catalytic chemist and serves as the President of the European Federation of Catalysis Societies.

Professor Bert Weckhuysen is a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, the European Academy of Sciences, and the Royal Academy of Sciences and Arts of Belgium. He has visited China multiple times for academic exchanges and has extensive collaborations with institutions such as the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanxi Institute of Coal Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Peking University, and East China University of Science and Technology. In recent years, Professor Bert Weckhuysen has trained many Chinese doctoral students and regularly hosts short-term academic exchanges or postdoctoral collaborations with young Chinese scholars. In addition, he maintains long-term close communication and collaboration with several research groups in China, frequently engaging in online and offline academic exchanges. He has made significant contributions to scientific research cooperation with the Chinese chemical community and the education of young scholars. In 2020, after voting by the CCS Standing Board, Professor Bert Weckhuysen was elected as an Honorary Fellow of the CCS.

After the conferral ceremony, Professor Bert Weckhuysen delivered an academic lecture titled "Catalysis at the Level of Single Particles, Molecules, and Atoms: Seeing is Believing?"
