• Luo Hui meets with UNESCO assistant director-general for Natural Science

    Luo Hui, member of the leading Party members group of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and director general of the Department of International Affairs of CAST, met with Lidia Arthur Brito, assistant director-general for Natural Sciences of UNESCO, who was visiting China on February 28, 2024.


    The two sides had in-depth discussions on cooperation in areas including public scientific literacy, journals and open science, evidence-based policy formulation to boost sustainable development, and engineering capacity building in developing countries.


    Luo Hui noted that CAST attaches great importance to the cooperative relationship with UNESCO, actively responds to the relevant initiatives put forward by UNESCO, and is willing to participate in the implementation of relevant plans and actions with the vision of the ten-year plan for science to promote sustainable development, jointly promote science, technology and engineering to benefit the people of the world, and strive to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).


    Brito expressed that UNESCO highly appreciates the pragmatic cooperation attitude of CAST, and is willing to engage in deep cooperation with CAST in areas including talent mobility, academic platform construction, global scientific literacy enhancement, and African engineering capacity building, to jointly promote scientific and technological progress and sustainable development.


    The leading figures of the Department of Sci-tech Innovation of CAST, the China Center for International Science and Technology Exchange, and the Communication Center for Science and Technology at CAST attended the meeting.
