Wan Gang, president of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), met with a Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) delegation headed by its former president Okimura Kazuki, who now serves as the lead researcher at the agency's China Research Communication Center (CRRC) - Sakura Science Plan (SSP), on Dec. 24, 2018.
The two sides discussed S&T and people-to-people exchanges between China and Japan at the meeting.
After extending his warm welcome to the delegation, Wan reviewed the achievements the two sides have made in youth S&T exchanges, S&T management personnel exchanges and high-level dialogues among scientists in recent years.
Noting that people-to-people exchanges in various fields is the important foundation for the long-term development of China-Japan relations, Wan called for CAST and JST to boost cooperation in youth innovation, ingenuity and entrepreneurship training, high-level dialogues among scientists, strengthening role of S&T in economic and social development and youth S&T exchanges in a bid to better serve as a bridge for non-governmental S&T exchanges and make greater contributions to the two countries’ S&T innovation and progress as well as their people’s wellbeing.
Okimura Kazuki thanked Wan and CAST for their long support to the Japan-Asia Youth Exchange Program in Science, also known as the SSP, and called for the two sides to deepen and enhance cooperation in bilateral youth S&T exchanges and other areas.
The two sides also exchanged views on other topics of common concern such as developing science communication venues and so on.
