Shu Wei, executive secretary of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), met with a Cuban delegation headed by the country’s vice minister of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA) Armando Rodriguez Batista in Beijing on October 15, 2019.
The two sides discussed how to improve the science and technology systems of China and Cuba respectively and increase bilateral academic exchanges.

Shu extended warm welcome to the delegation.
While noting CAST is committed to building platforms for academic exchanges, science communication and youth science exchanges, Shu hoped that CAST and CITMA will work together as a bridge for promoting closer exchanges between the science communities of China and Cuba.
Shu also introduced to Batista the First World Science and Technology Development Forum and the 2019 World Conference on Science Literacy that would open on Octorber 16. He invited Cuba to send representatives to the relevant academic activities CAST will hold in 2020, where the two sides can explore the possibility of cooperation in science and technology promoting economic and social development as well as in science communication, and jointly propose ideas for making science and technology better benefit humanity.
Batista expressed his appreciation of CAST's warm reception.
He introduced to Shu the endeavors relevant Cuban agencies have made in science and technology promoting social development, youth science cooperation and the formulation of science policies.
He said that Cuba thinks highly of CAST’s experiences in promoting science and technology development and in enhancing civic science literacy and hopes to further deepen cooperation with CAST to jointly push forward the exchanges and cooperation between professional societies of same disciplines of the two countries.
Batista also invited CAST to send representatives to the Third World Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation to be held in Cuba in 2020.
Also joining the meeting were officials of the CAST Department of Academic and Societies Affairs and Department of International Affairs as well as representatives of the Cuba Embassy in China and Cuban experts.
