Research, a journal launched in 2018 by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) under the Science Partner Journal program, held its 2019 Editorial Board Meeting in Beijing on December 28, 2019.
Song Jun, executive secretary of CAST, attended the meeting, together with 16 of the journal’s Editorial Board members, including Gao Song, vice president of CAST, member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and president of South China University of Technology, Huang Wei, member of CAS, executive vice president of Northwestern Polytechnical University and editor-in-chief (China) of Research, Cui Tianhong, editor-in-chief (international) of Research, Xu Ningsheng, member of CAS and president of Fudan University, Chen Jun, member of CAS and vice president of Nankai University, and Liu Weimin, member of CAS and research fellow of the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics, CAS.
Also joining them were representatives of the CAST Department of Academic and Societies Affairs, the Science Publishing House, and the Science and Technology Review Publishing House (the publishing house under the leadership of CAST which distributes Research in association with AAAS), bringing the total number of attendees to 30.
The meeting heard a report on Research’s progress in 2019. While recognizing the progress, participants also offered targeted opinions and suggestions to solve existing problems and improve future development.

In his speech at the meeting, Song Jun affirmed that Research has made headway over the past year, saying CAST attaches great importance to and has high hopes for Research, and will continue to support the journal in the future.
He urged the Science and Technology Review Publishing House to study the valuable opinions and suggestions put forward by the Editorial Board members at the meeting and make corresponding improvements.
He also urged the publishing house to provide a good service to the Editorial Board and make sure Research sticks to its founding mission as it goes forward.
Research must develop according to its set plans and ensure goals for each phase can be fulfilled, Song instructed.
He also called for innovative ideas and approaches in the journal’s development.
Besides, the journal needs to make full use of its partnership with Science and publish breakthroughs by both Chinese and international scientists, Song said.
The editors-in-chief of Research said at the meeting that the journal, aiming to become a world-class publication through collaboration with Science, has made major progress in 2019 in various aspects, from articles contribution and publication to promotion and inclusion into major STM databases. They expressed their appreciation for those who have given their support and help to the journal over the past year.
They noted that as a major country in science and technology, China has seen many world-leading research achievements coming forth in recent years, and therefore needs an STM journal that can represent its academic level on the international stage.
They called on all Editorial Board members to give greater support to the journal so that it can achieve the first-class world influence at an early date.
As a high-level, international and comprehensive journal, Research, as part of its progress in 2019, was indexed in major STM databases such as INSPEC, Scopus, PMC, CSCD and DOAJ.
