The Leisi International Forum 2020, an event that focused on agricultural machinery from the perspective of poverty alleviation, was held in Zhenjiang city, Jiangsu province, on April 29, 2020.

The event was sponsored by the Chinese Society for Agricultural Machinery (CSAM), the China Association of Agricultural Machinery Manufacturers (CAAMM), the Chinese Society of Agricultural Engineering, the China Agricultural Mechanization Association, and the China Agricultural Machinery Distribution Association, and organized by Jiangsu University and the International University Consortium for Agricultural Engineering.
Over 300 experts and scholars from seven countries and regions including the U.S., the UK and Thailand attended the forum either on the spot or via webinar links.
Some 60 universities that have agriculture-related majors sent representatives to the meeting, including China Agricultural University, Zhejiang University and Jilin University.
Among those who attended the opening ceremony via webinar links were Liu Jian, former vice Chinese minister of agriculture and former head of the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development; Wang Maohua, Luo Xiwen and Chen Xuegeng, all members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and honorary presidents of CSAM; Chen Zhi, honorary president of CSAM and president of CAAMM; Wang Bo, president of CSAM; Zhao Chunjiang, member of CAE and vice president of CSAM; Zhang Xiansheng, secretary general of CSAM; Niwes Nantachit, president of Chiang Mai University, Thailand; Daniel Palm, associate vice president of the Northern Arizona University, the U.S.; Lu Huazhong, president of the Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
Yuan Shouqi, vice president of CSAM and Party secretary of Jiangsu University, Chen Qiaomin, director of the Nanjing Institute of Agricultural Mechanization of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Yu Xiaoqi, vice president of Xihua University, Cai Jibo, vice president of the YTO Group Corporation, and Yan Xiaohong, president of Jiangsu University, attended the opening ceremony on the spot.
Yi Zhongyi, president of the Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences, chaired the opening ceremony.
Wang Maohua, Chen Xuegeng, Zhao Chunjiang, professor Steve Banwart of the University of Leeds, the UK, and Yuan Shouqi delivered academic reports during the event. Their topics were respectively: Suggestions on innovation-driven development of China’s agricultural equipment and mechanization; Raising the quality and efficiency of China’s agricultural mechanization with intensified efforts for scientific and technological innovations; Smart machinery in smart agriculture; Cooperation between the University of Leeds and Jiangsu; and the History and prospect of China’s agricultural machinery and equipment industry.
Jiangsu University’s Leisi Building was inaugurated in a ceremony during the forum. An exhibition on agricultural equipment was also held concurrently.
The forum also included two symposiums. One was on the development of agricultural equipment industry and the other on the development of agricultural machinery in the Fourteenth Five-Year Period.
Professor Luo Biliang of South China Agricultural University, Professor Jiang Zhibin of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, professor Liu Jun of Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, and Cai Jibo, delivered keynote speeches at the symposiums. Their topics were respectively: The preferable paths for agricultural modernization; Service-embedded manufacturing and the agricultural machinery industry; The operation of the Chinese Academy of Manufacturing Industry Development; and The status quo of the agricultural equipment industry.
By inviting Chinese and international experts and scholars to share views, the forum aimed to promote China’s agricultural machinery industry transform and upgrade as well as support the poverty alleviation and revitalization of rural areas.
