Themed "Secure a decisive victory in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, pursue sci-tech development for the people", 2020 National Science Popularization Day program with a series of science communication activities takes place during the third week of September, from September 19 to 25, 2020.
2020 National Science Popularization Day was co-sponsored by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Water Resources, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the National Health Commission and the Ministry of Emergency Management.
With the aim of satisfying the needs of the grassroots and serving the nation’s development, 2020 National Science Popularization Day is featured with a "3+1" framework, setting capital city Beijing as the main venue, selecting provincial capitals as the sub-venues, initiating 10 joint actions and displaying the event online.
Beijing offers serial activities at China Science and Technology Museum, Beijing Science Carnival and some special activities as well.
China Science and Technology Museum stages four exhibitions: Science popularization and sci-tech innovation, Public safety and health, Scientific stars shining the future, and Building a moderately prosperous society in all respects.
Through highly entertaining and interactive exhibits and multi-media materials, visitors can better experience that science and technology do people good.
Two thematic exhibitions in the museum are highly recommended to the visitors: traditional Chinese and western medicine fighting COVID-19 together and science and technology making a well-off society.
Special activities in Beijing include: Experts of research projects and those in science popularization are invited to exchange views on issues of public concern; Video links are presented to show the ongoing science popularization activities in CAST's local branches and affiliated societies; Advocacy initiatives for reading popular science materials, establishment of psychological stress response team and founding of hand-in-hand between scientists and children science popularization lecture teams union.
Abundant science popularization activities will be held nationwide in the consecutive months, with 10 joint actions of science popularization taken by both relevant state organs and social forces.
In addition, a cloud platform for 2020 National Science Popularization Day (https://www.kepuri.org/) has been set up for the organizers in various fields across the country to provide the public more choices.
Visitors can watch videos, view live broadcast on the platform and participate in the cloud tour of 2020 National Science Popularization Day sites, listen to lectures and involve in contests as well.
The statistics on September 19 show that, the number of science popularization activities gathered on the platform has exceeded 20,000, and the number of participants is close to 7.6 million.
The total number of visits to the platform has exceeded 14 million, and the total sharing amount has exceeded 2 million.
It is summarized that 2020 National Science Popularization Day has the following four features:
-- Put science popularization at the same important position as sci-tech innovation, improve scientific literacy of Chinese people and apply sci-tech achievements better serve China's modernization;
-- Pay attention to better communicate knowledge on health emergency to the public, and help set up a public health emergency mechanism to serve people's safety and health;
-- Pool and share resources of science popularization activities through CAST’s brand program of "China Science Communication", and tap channels to better communicate science both online and offline;
-- Launch "The song of science-wings of dreams" as the theme song of the event, making people getting close to science and feel its charm.
Since 2004, CAST has successfully held the National Science Popularization Day serial activities for 16 consecutive years. Totally almost 100,000 key science popularization activities have been held, and more than 1.9 billion people have participated in the event.
