Members of the expert committee and compilation committee, including Yang Wei, Director of the expert committee, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Director of the expert committee of world-class STM journals, Lyu Zhaoping, Director of the compilation committee, Member of the Leading Party Members Group and Executive Secretary of the Secretariat of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), Li Jun, Vice President of the China Periodicals Association (CPA), Liu Jiansheng, full-time inspection leader of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, Wei Junmin, Vice President and Secretary General of the China Editology Society of Science Periodicals (CESSP), Xiao Hong, Vice President of the China Academic Journal Press, and Sun Hongbo, Professor of Tsinghua University and Executive Editor of Light: Science & Application, attended the meeting.
With the theme of "Academic publishing in the open science environment", Blue Book 2021 introduces status quo of China’s STM journals, analyzes the impact of open science on academic publishing, and explores the transformation and future trends of STM journals in the open science environment.
After listening to the reports on preparation and compilation of each chapter of the book, the participating experts had in-depth discussions and put forward suggestions for revision.
Academician Yang Wei fully recognized the compilation and preparation of Blue Book 2021.
He believed that with comprehensive content and detailed data, for the first time, Blue Book 2021 has very well interpreted the operative mechanism and process data of academic journal publishing in China under the open science environment, laying a sound foundation for relevant future research.
At the meeting, Academician Yang Wei used the theories of topology and dynamics to describe open science, and explained the internal driving force of open science from the perspective of achieving win-win results.
Lyu Zhaoping pointed out that the Blue Book series have recorded the development of China's STM journals and met the needs of Chinese scientists and technologists since it was initiated.
Lyu proposed 3 suggestions to advance the compilation of Blue Book 2021:
--We should depict the whole picture of open science on the basis of reliable data and documents since it is a systematic project involving many subjects;
--We should reflect the development trend of academic publishing under the open science environment to promote high-quality development of China's STM journals;
--We should uphold high-quality publishing conception to ensure accurate data and prominence of key points, and make efforts to introduce the practice and theories of China’s STM journals to the world through the distribution of the English version of Blue Book 2021.
After the meeting, the compilation committee held a seminar to analyze the suggestions proposed by the participating experts and decompose current tasks in detail to ensure Blue Book 2021 to be published on schedule.
Sponsored by CAST and organized by the Service Center for Societies of CAST, Blue Book 2021 is planned to be published at the 17th Forum on Development of China’s STM Journals in late November 2021.
