On November 15, the sixth "Belt and Road" Teenager Maker Camp and Teachers Workshop opened its curtain in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The event was co-sponsored by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), the Ministry of Science and Technology, People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Chongqing Municipal People's Government, and organized by Children and Youth Science Center of CAST and Guangxi Association for Science and Technology (GAST).
Meng Qinghai, vice president and Executive Secretary of the Secretariat of CAST , Huang Ribo, vice chairman of the CPPCC Guangxi Committee and GAST, Skalli WafaI, vice chairman of InterAcademy Panel on lnternational Issues Science Education Panel (IAP SAP), Seyed Komail Tayebi, chairman of ECO Science Foundation, Jackie Olang, executive director of African Academy of Sciences, and Mohamed Jemni, director of Science and Technology Exchange Center of Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization attended the event online and offline and delivered speeches.
Leaders from the Consulate General of Vietnam, Myanmar and other countries in Nanning, as well as Guangxi Department of Science and Technology, Guangxi Department of Education and Nanning Municipal People's Government attended the meeting.

Meng Qinghai said the 20th CPC National Congress had drawn a grand blueprint for Chinese path to modernization and opened a new chapter in China's friendly cooperation between China and other countries.
To further expand the function of science and technology exchanges of "Belt and Road" science and technology projects, CAST has joined hands with more than 20 enterprises in transportation engineering field for the first time, including China Communications Construction Company and China Railway Construction Group, to explore a way of making use of overseas construction projects as scientific camps to serve the local people and open to the public audience regularly.
He remarked that it is the original mission of the programme to promote high-quality Belt and Road development and enhance people-to-people exchanges among countries. The future editions of the camp will feature in four themes including youth exchanges, resource co-construction and sharing, partner base building, and capacity improvement of science teachers, building an international cooperation platform to pool the strength of the international community and promote communication and exchanges.
Huang Ribo expressed the hope to build a platform for international communication, promote science literacy of the youth and nurture the next generation of science innovation talents for mutual benefit and win-win cooperation.
Skalli Wafa, Seyed Komail Tayebi, Jackie Olang and Mohamed Jemni gave full praise to the positive impact of the Maker Camp on teachers and students in the countries of the Belt and Road Initiative; expressed their willing to provide continuous support for the event.
Four "Belt and Road" science and technology volunteer groups were officially established at the opening ceremony, with members from Science Research Institute of the Ministry of Transport, China Overseas Construction and Engineering Group, vocational colleges the transportation industry and foreign students in Chongqing .
During the camp, more than 500 domestic transportation scientists, including CAE academician Lin Ming, will give popular science reports. 120 engineers of large state-owned enterprises working in 56 countries will host live broadcasts. 64 students from transportation vocational colleges will serve as "academic assistants". And 38 students from 16 countries will serve as "friendship ambassadors" for 16 domestic and foreign middle schools and guide online science seminars.
After the opening event, the China-ASEAN youth science and technology "cloud competition" was held. Guanxi students played water rocket launch and paper bridge building games realtime online with students from ASEAN countries including Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Cambodia.
Online communication during the camp
The online and offline camp and workshop activities last from September to November, taking "communication and collaborative development" as the theme. More than 300 learning projects, 33 activities and around 100 online displays including “cloud tour China” and Chinese traditional culture experience, making the event a carnival of "Belt and Road" youth science and technology exchange and attracting teachers and students from 74 countries and regions. Science and Technology games will be organized in ASEAN countries on site, and a "shared class" will be expected online to promote mutual learning and friendship between teachers and students of China and ASEAN countries.
