With the theme of "Nuclear energy innovation shapes a zero carbon future", the 23rd Pacific Basin Nuclear Conference (PBNC 2022) opened both in Beijing and Chengdu on November 1, 2022.
Premier Li Keqiang sent a congratulatory letter to the conference.
Zhang Yuzhuo, secretary of the leading Party members group, vice president in charge of daily work and chief executive secretary of the Secretariat of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), read out Premier Li Keqiang's congratulatory letter to the conference and delivered a speech.
Wang Shoujun, president of the conference and president of the Chinese Nuclear Society (CNS), Wang Zhi, president of the Pacific Nuclear Council (PNC), Zhang Kejian, vice minister of Industry and Information Technology and director of the China Atomic Energy Authority, Dong Baotong, vice minister of Ecology and Environment and director of the National Nuclear Safety Administration, Zeng Yachuan, director of the National Energy Administration, Rafael Grossi, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Yu Jianfeng, president of the conference, president of China National Nuclear Corporation, and honorary president of the CNS, attended the conference and delivered speeches respectively.
Zhang Yuzhuo said in his address that CAST has been always intensifying efforts to implement President Xi Jinping’s instructions to develop nuclear power in a safe and orderly manner and build up the production, supply, storage, and marketing systems to ensure energy security.
Zhang noted that according to Premier Li Keqiang’s congratulatory letter, we’ll work together with global colleagues to make combined efforts for breakthroughs in nuclear science and technology to support green development, communicate relevant knowledge to promote public understanding and support, and expand international cooperation to improve openness, innovation and governance capabilities in this regard, so as to play a unique role in and inject strong momentum into the development of nuclear energy in the world.
Zhang added that building a community with a shared future for mankind is the shared aspiration of all people around the world. It is the responsibility of the international sci-tech community to maintain energy security and foster new drivers for global development.
Zhang hoped all the participants to enhance openness, trust and cooperation to make nuclear energy benefit human well-being and create a better future.
Sponsored by the PNC, the PBNC gathers global academic and industrial elites every two years, and has become one of the most influential events in the global nuclear energy field.
The PBNC 2022 is under the guidance of CAST and the China Atomic Energy Authority, sponsored by the CNS, co-sponsored by the China National Nuclear Corporation, China Huaneng Group Co., Ltd, and the State Power Investment Corporation Limited (SPIC), and organized by the Nuclear Power Institute of China.
