The 2021 unveiling ceremony of the brand program of "China Science Communication" of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) was live streamed on CCTV10 -- China Central Television’s science and education channel -- on February 14, 2022.

Co-sponsored by CAST, the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), People's Daily, Xinhua News Agency and China Media Group (CMG),  and supported by the implementation office of the national scheme for scientific literacy and the China Alliance for Scientific Literacy, the event revealed 4 categories of top 10s in 2021, i.e. popular science figures, works, events and rumor rebuttals. At the ceremony the winers of 2021 highest honor of China Science Communication were introduced and awarded the trophy.

On the event site, 10 teams and individuals including Lang Jinghe, academician of the CAE and honorary director of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Peking Union Medical College Hospital, together with his science communication group, and Kuang Tingyun, academician of the CAS and senior researcher of the Institute of Botany of the CAS, were announced as 2021 top 10 popular science figures.

Science communication books including Shallow Theory of the Deep Sea were announced as 2021 top 10 popular science works.

"The COVID-19 vaccine research and vaccination progress" among others were announced as 2021 top 10 popular science events.

The rebuttal of "0 sucrose is sugar free" among others were announced as top 10 rumor rebuttals.

Astronauts Zhai Zhigang, Wang Yaping and Ye Guangfu of the Shenzhou 13 flight crew won 2021 highest honor of China Science Communication.

Zhang Yuzhuo, secretary of the leading Party members group, vice president in charge of daily work and chief executive secretary of the Secretariat of CAST, Zhou Qi, member of the leading Party members group, vice president and academician of the CAS, Cui Shixin, deputy editor in chief of the People's Daily, Gong Xixiang, member of the leading Party members group and secretary general of Xinhua News Agency, Yan Xiaoming, member of the leading Party members group and deputy director of the CMG, together with 5 academicians including Kuang Tingyun, Lang Jinghe, Wu Xiangping, Sun Baoguo and Yang Hong, and Jing Haipeng, captain of the Astronaut Corps of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) and Chinese super astronaut, attended the event.

Under the theme of "stay true to the original aspiration and keep on practicing the founding mission”, and with the highlight of "the centennial of the founding of the Party" and "the great year of aerospace science", the unveiling ceremony screened the elaborated promo video of "Centennial science communication for the general public" and the message clip of the astronauts of Shenzhou 13 flight crew from the outer space to China Science Communication. The narration of the the Outline of the National Scheme for Scientific Literacy (2021-2035) and on-site 100-second popular science talk shows were interspersed at the unveiling ceremony.

Sponsored by CAST, 7 sessions of the unveiling ceremony has been held since it was initiated in 2015. It has played a positive role in enhancing scientific literacy of the general public and has become one of the most influential brand activities in the field of science communication.

A total of 1,344 programs from 144 units including relevant ministries and commissions, central enterprises, national societies and provincial associations of science and technology were recommended to compete for this year’s top 10s, hitting a new high record in its 7 year development history.
