The China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) inaugurated a new committee to provide consultative services for the United Nations (UN) on issues about the sustainable development of cities and communities, and the protection of historical heritage as well in Beijing on September 13, 2023.

10 academic societies affiliated to CAST including the Urban Planning Society of China, The Architectural Society of China, the Geographical Society of China, the Chinese Society of Landscape Architecture, the Chinese Society for the History of Science and Technology and China Civil Engineering Society execute as member bodies of the newly established CAST-UN Consultative Committee.

The Consultative Committee is expected to provide consultation services to the UN in the field of human settlements and historical heritage protection, and contribute China’s solutions for major issues in global sci-tech governance.

The establishment of the Consultative Committee is CAST’s practical measure to implement President Xi Jinping’s instruction on Global Development Initiative (GDI) to safeguard the international system with the UN at its core.
