• CAST holds meeting to deploy UN consultation work

    The China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) held a meeting to deploy UN consultation work in a hybrid way of both online and on-spot at the China Hall of Science and Technology (CHST) on April 12, 2024.


    More than 100 representatives, including the chairpersons, vice chairpersons, secretary-general, and council members of the 10 CAST-UN consultative committees, as well as invited experts and staff members from international sci-tech organizations and media, attended the meeting.


    Luo Hui, Member of the Leading Party Members Group, and Director General of the Department of International Affairs of CAST, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.


    Zhu Baoxia, Vice President and Secretary General of China Daily, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.


    The meeting was presided over by the responsible person of the Department of International Affairs of CAST.


    Guo Huadong, Chairman of the CAST UN Consultative Committee on Disaster Reduction, Gong Ke, Chairman of the CAST UN Consultative Committee on Information and Communication Technology (CAST-CCIT), and Shi Nan, rotating Chairman of the CAST UN Consultative Committee on Sustainable City, Community and Heritage (CCSC) were invited to share experiences and give suggestions.


    The meeting heard a report from the China Centre for International Science and Technology Exchange (CISTE) on 2023 Work Summary and 2024 Work Plan for the CAST UN consultation work.


    Representatives of the Consultative Committees delivered reports and exchanged views on the application for and preparation of the 2024 sideline events of UN activities, and the plans and timetables formulated to strengthen research work.


    CAST has been actively promoting Chinese sci-tech circles to get engaged in the formulation of the UN agenda and global sci-tech governance since it was granted consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council in July 2004.


    Currently, there are 10 CAST UN consultative committees with 327 experts, participating in a total of 14 General Assembly Plenary and Related Meetings within the UN System, holding 8 themed sideline events and 4 exhibitions in 2023.
