The 2016 World Engineering Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction, hosted by the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), opened at the LimaConvention Center in Lima, Peru on Dec. 5, 2016. Prof. Gong Ke, vice president of WFEO and honorary member of CAST, and 12 other Chinese representatives participated in the meeting. Prof. Gong Ke delivered a keynote speech on invitation.
WFEO-CEIT, a standing WFEO technical committee hosted by CAST, also held its first work conference on Dec. 3. About 20 representatives from China, Singapore, Peru, Argentina, Germany, Spain, USA, Canada, Nigeria, South Africa, etc. attended the meeting. The preliminary work conducted by CEIT was summarized and plan for the next phase was discussed at the meeting.
Prof. Gong Ke delivers a keynote speech
Gong Ke, on behalf of CAST, proposed the launching of “International Meridian Initiave”, an international cooperative program for earthquake forecast based on seismo-ionospheric precursor monitoring, at the meeting, which attracted considerable attention among the participants. CAST delegation hoped to start and advance the process of developing and implementing major large-scale international programs in WFEO through this program.
The official of the department of international affairs of CAST met with Mr. Jorge Alva, chair of the Colegio de Ingenieros del Perúduring the meeting. They exchanged ideas on further bilateral cooperation and communication.
