Chongqing Science and Technology Museum slated for official opening in September

Chongqing Science and Technology Museum, with a total investment of some 600 million yuan (about 100 million US dollars), is scheduled to officially open to the public in September this year.

According to sources of the Chongqing Association for Science and Technololgy, Chongqing Science and Technology Museum is one of the 10 key infrastructure projects of social and cultural undertaking planned for the southwestern Chinese municipality of Chongqing, and it serves as a large scale modern, comprehensive and multiple purpose venue for public science education.

Located in the area of the Jiangbeizui CBD (Central Business District) of Chongqing, where the Yangtze River and the Jialing River conflow, Chongqing Science and Technology Museum occupies a land area of 37 mu and has a construction floor space of 44,681 sq m, of which 30,821 sq m are devoted to exhibition education.

Highlighting the history and the future of scientific and technological development of China, the world and Chongqing, Chongqing Science and Technology Museum is planned to be divided into six thematic exhibition halls, i.e. Science and Technology of Everyday Life, Disaster-Prevention Science and Technology, Communications Science and Technology, National Defense Science and Technology, Space Science and Technology, and Basic Sciences, as well as two topical galleries under the banners of Children's Science Paradise and the Glory of Industry. 

At the same time, Chongqing Science and Technology Museum also boasts such content and functions as academic exchanges, organization of popular science lectures, showing of popular science films and videos, research and development of popular science exhibits, teenagers’ science and technology DIY (do-it-yourself), and science wagon etc., making it an ideal place for the general public, particularly children and youths, to acquire knowledge of science and technology.
