Mr. Chen Xi, executive vice president and chief executive secretary of China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), required associations for science and technology to further strengthen the organizational construction of associations for science and technology at institutions of higher learning, pull together science education and talent resources of universities, organize academicians, experts, scientific researchers, faculty members and students to go to the countryside and communities in order to conduct popular science education there. Mr. Chen Xi made such requirements during his recent investigative tours in Sichuan province. He also expressed the hope that activities such as inviting scientists to deliver popular science lectures and organizing science summer camps and high school “Talented Students Programs” will be carried out in a deep way, so as to further stimulate students to develop their interest and enthusiasm in learning, practicing, as well as using science. Furthermore, Mr. Chen Xi underscored the importance of furthering the work of learned societies and encouraged the exploration and formation of various new working modes that are beneficial to their development.
During the investigative tours, Mr. Chen Xi took time to listen to the work reports of Sichuan Association for Science and Technology, the Chengdu Aircraft Industrial (Group) Company Association for Science and Technology and Sichuan University. He also took part in the opening of the 28th Annual Academic Conference of the Chinese Chemical Society and the activities celebrating the Society’s 80th anniversary.
