On the morning of July 2^nd, 2008, in the roaring of machines and the soaring sound of gongs and drums, construction of the new sector of Shanxi Province Science and Technology Museum broke ground.

The new Museum is one of the six major public benefit oriented projects of Shanxi province during the 11^th Five-Year Plan period. It is located in Changfeng business district of Taiyuan, capital of the province, covering an area of 4.7 hectares. The total construction area of the Museum is 28,000 square meters, and the total investment is RMB 200 million yuan. The Museum will be made up of a hall for permanent exhibition, a hall for temporary exhibitions, a planetarium, a special effect movie theater, a set of training rooms, science labs, an auditorium for science popularization, a kids activity center and other supporting facilities.
