Earthquake and Reflection Exhibition Tour opens in Beijing
2008 / 07 / 31

On July 10, an exhibition entitled "Earthquake and Reflection"opened in the China Science and Technology Museum (CSTM). The exhibition is jointly sponsored by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, China Association for Science and Technology and CSTM, and organized by the China National Geographic magazine.

The exhibition is based on related content of the special issue of China National Geographic magazine, supplemented by a richer collection of photographs and information, including a number of carefully-drawn sketch maps on the earthquake causes and distribution and more than 60 pieces of the on site photos. It demonstrated to the audience six partial contents from multiple perspectives: earthquake's causes, earthquake's direct disaster and secondary hazards, rescue and self-help, and post-quake thoughts, etc. The exhibition presented to the audience a scientific understanding of earthquake, trying to foster awareness of disaster mitigation and reduction and to popularize self-help knowledge.

Li Shuanke, president of China National Geographic magazine, said that the earthquake is one of frequent geological activities. Only with correct understanding of the earthquake, can people avoid more disasters. This is also the intention of conducting this exhibition.

The exhibition will be on display in CSTM for 10 days. China National Geographic magazine will present 50 copies of its special issue to audience every day. Afterwards, the exhibition will be on display in Shanghai, Guangzhou and other cities.
