Mme Deng Nan, executive vice president and chief executive secretary of CAST, paid an inspection visit to Wuhu and Hefei in Anhui province from August 19 to 21.
Mr. Wand Jinshan, secretary of Anhui provincial Party committee and Mr. Wang Sanyun, governor of Anhui province met with Mme Deng during her visit. Mr. Wang Jinshan expressed his appreciation for the persistent support that CAST had given to the work in the province and briefed Mme Deng of the current situation in scientific and technological work in the province. He said that the provincial Party committee and government have paid great attention to the work of Anhui Association for Science and Technology and have been bringing into full play the unique role of local organizations of the Association in builging the innovative capacity of Anhui province and boosting the renovation of the province.
At the new venue of Wuhu Science and Technology Museum, officials briefed Mme Deng of the development of the Museum. Mme Deng emphasized that the design should avoid any outmoded notion, bring in more variety of contents and try to make the exhibits more interactive and attractive to young visitors, allowing them to experience the charm of science. At Chery Automobile, Mme visited workshops of the engine plant and the car assembly plant as well as the research institute of company. She expressed high appreciation of Chery's efforts to attract talented people to join the company for R&D work.
Mme Deng also inspected EAST Superconducting Tokamak at the Institute of Plasma Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ASIPP). When she learned that ASIPP had rallied more than 400 outstanding people to work on its projects, Mme Deng said that while emphasis should be paid to attracting more talented people to join the team, it was necessary to foster the team through international cooperation. At IFLYTEK, Mme Deng showed particular interest in the speech synthesis technology demonstration. She said that the technology had a bright future for its application and hoped that the company would manufacture more products that would suit the need of science popularization.
During the visit, Mme Deng emphasized that scientists and engineering personnel should go deeply into enterprises, rural areas and communities and actively involve themselves in the great practice of scientific development. They should be encouraged to work on innovations, to promote the transfermation of scientific achievements, and to contribute to the healthy and fast development of the economy and society. She also emphasized the importance of implementing the Outline of the National Scheme for Scientific Literacy, focusing on acvancing the scientific literacy of minors, famers, urban workforce and public servants. |
