of Dujiangyan City for the popular science service teams organized by Sichuan Association for Science and Technology. Immediately following the ceremony a series of popular science activities were conducted.

Under the auspices of Sichuan Association for Science and Technology, a total of 39 such popular science service teams have been set up mainly by the associations for science and technology of Chengdu, Deyang, Mianyang and other cities or prefectures severely struct by the May 12th massive earthquake. The missions of these popular science service teams include organizing tour of exhibitions on earthquake-related knowledge, distribution of post-earthquake popular science handbooks and CD-ROMS, organization of seminars and technical training programs, as well as donation of seeds, pesticides and fertilizers, and the sales of agricultural products etc. The teams also work to guild the local people to adopt a correct attitude towards natural calamities and help promote their self-rescue skills in an effort to calm down the public agitation and contribute to the post-disaster reconstruction operations.
