At the Working Conference of Member Societies of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) held recently, Mr. Chen Xi, executive vice president and chief executive secretary of CAST, said that with the continuous increase of input in science and technology over the recent years, the conditions and environment for S&T innovation will be greatly improved, which will provide a broader stage for the learned societies to bring their role into full play.

Mr. Chen Xi revealed that CAST and the Ministry of Finance (MOF) have decided to jointly create a special fund to enhance the capacities of the learned societies this year. The fund will be used to reward a number of CAST member societies with best performance selected on the basis of competition so as to bring their demonstration and promotion role into full play, leading the development of Chinese scientific societies. He hoped that the member societies would grasp this precious opportunity and try their best to build their societies into modern scientific societies with strong academic influence, social credibility , membership cohesion, and self-development capability.
