On December 31st 2008, the 63rd General Assembly of the United Nations passed a resolution designating 2011 as the International Year of Chemistry. In line with this resolution and under the auspices of the China Association for Science and Technology and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Society of Chemistry and the Chinese Society of Chemical Industry, together with science groups of relevant fields, will kick off a series of activities under the banner of "the International Year of Chemistry in China" in an effort to popularize the knowledge of chemical science among the general public as well as to present China's scientific research achievements in chemistry and chemical industry.
It is the most important objective and task for the International Year of Chemistry to popularize the knowledge of chemical science among the populace. During the International Year of Chemistry, China Association for Science and Technology, in collaboration with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, will jointly promote nationwide a slew of colorful activities such as "The Grand Design Contest of Interesting Chemical Experiments", "The Exhibition on Popular Chemistry" and "The Opening Day of Chemistry".
The fun and charm of chemistry lie in experiments. Jointly sponsored by the Bureau of Membership of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the "National Design Contest of Interesting Chemical Experiments for International Year of Chemistry 2011" has been recently launched with the theme of "Feeling Chemistry and Experiencing Its Charm". With a view to presenting the role and charm of chemistry in a more extensive and vivid way through interesting experiments, the Contest will call for designing schemes of interesting chemical experiments from across the country.
In order to promote the activities of the International Year of Chemistry in China, as well as to enlarge the social influence of the serial activities of the International Year of Chemistry 2011, China Science and Technology Museum's Digital Science and Technology Museum Department has officially launched a website of the International Year of Chemistry in China (www.iyc2011.cn). For information regarding the activities of the International Year of Chemistry in China, please feel free to log on to this website. |
