Tang Bo is the vice president of and a professor with Shandong Normal University. In the fields of green chemical industry, molecule and the synthesizing of nano fluorescent probe, he posed the theoretical model of green chemical industry and invented clean production technology for more than 40 products, thus reducing the emission of pollutants from their origins.
Tang Bo further developed American scientist Trost’s theory of atom utilization ratio and came up with the theoretical model of atom utilization ratio effective value. He then applies the theoretical model to the production of chemical fertilizers and fine chemicals which is notorious for its serious pollution and emissions.
“The new technique of ground phosphate rock direct production of N、P、K sulphur- or chlorine-based ternary compound fertilizers” developed by Tang Bo has helped solve the problem of environmental pollution caused by the piling up of phosphorus gypsum in the traditional production procedures, enabling the atom utilization ration effective value to reach 100 percent. The ensuing implementation of this project to a certain degree solved the problem of China’s dependence on imported high quality N、P、K compound fertilizers at that time; it also greatly promoted the development of the industry of compound fertilizers and enhanced agricultural crop yields as well as farmers’ income. In 2001, Tang was awarded the Second Prize of the National Science & Technology Advancement Award, and the First Prize of the Shandong Science & Technology Advancement Award.
Through the research and development of new types of highly active and long life catalyst and reactive auxiliary, as well as the application of new types of clean electrosynthesis techniques, Tang Bo’s research group has accomplished the clean production of 38 intermediates for important agricultural chemicals and medicines, realizing the maximization of the effective value of the atom utilization ratio.
In accordance with the photosynthetic principle of plants, Tang Bo succeeded in developing a new type of “optical ecological” greenhouse plastic film which helps reduce the use of agricultural chemicals and fertilizers in agricultural production, increase the quality of farm produce and achieve the effects of increasing yields and incomes for farmers. As well, it has solved such problems of the existing turn light plastic film as single luminance, reduced transmittance, high production cost and limitation in application. At present the application of this product has been expanded to the Chinese provinces of Shandong, Anhui, Henan and Shanxi.
For many years, Tang Bo has devoted himself to the researches on nano fluorescent probe, applying the resultant achievements to the imaging test of many important life substances inside cells and living tissues. At present he is working to establish a molecule bank of probes which aims to select good quality probes in preparation for future medical applications.
