Zhang Xigang is a senior engineer and Chairman of Board of CCCC (China Communications Construction Company) Highway Consultants Co., Ltd.
He has gained outstanding achievements in the investigation, design and research work of extra-large cable-stayed highway bridges, and enjoys high reputation at home and abroad. He has played important roles in the technological advances in the construction of modern bridges.
As the responsible person for the projects and research topics in the National S&T Support Program, Zhang and his research team worked out the constructional and systematic technologies, new structures and special design methods for thousand-meter multiple-span bridges, basic operational control technologies for large-scale deep-water piles, operational control technologies for the top cable of thousand-meter multiple-span bridges. Through the above, they successfully tackled the technology bottleneck in breaking the record of a thousand meters with the multiple-span bridges.
As the chief designer, he designed and oversaw the construction of Sutong Bridge, the longest multiple-span bridge in the world, thus leading the world in extending for a thousand meters with the multiple-span bridges.
As the chief engineer, he directed the design and scientific research of Junshan Yangtz River Highway Bridge, Chongqing Jialing River Huanghuayuan Bridge, Edong Bridge, Chongqi Bridge, Jiashao Bridge, Penang No. 2 Bridge in Malaysia, Hongkong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, and a couple of other similar extra-large bridges.
