At the annual board meeting of the International Council for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ICIAM) which was held on 20th May
Yu Jihong honored with IUPAC Distinguished Women in Chemistry/Chemical Engineering Award

The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) announced recently the recipients of the 2017 IUPAC Distinguished Women in Chemistry/Chemical Engineering Award. Prof. Yu Jihong from Jilin University, member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, became one of the 12 women scientists winning the award. The award ceremony will be held at the 46th IUPAC academic conference during July 14-19, 2017 in São Paulo, Brazil.

Prof. Yu Jihong has been long engaged in research of inorganic porous functional materials synthesis and preparation chemistry, and has made extraordinary achievements with a solid theoretical foundation. She has made important and innovative contribution in the structural design and oriented synthesisof the molecular sieve porous crystal materials. In recent years, facing significant environmental and energy demand, she has made important progress in the practical application of molecular sieve porous materials.

Prof. Yu Jihong was elected a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2015 and member of the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) in 2016. As a professor and doctoral supervisor with the State Key Laboratory of Inorganic Synthesis and Preparative Chemistry at Jilin University College of Chemistry , she is also the director of international cooperation joint laboratory of Jilin University, vice president of Jilin Association for Science and Technology and president of its branch in Jilin University. She also serves as deputy editor-in chief of Chem. Sci., journal of Royal Chemical Society of the UK , a council member of the International Association of Molecular Sieve, Fellow of the UK Royal Chemical Society, and council member of Chinese Chemical Society. Her main research direction is the design construction of the molecular sieve nanopores materials and its application in the field of energy, environment, and advanced materials. She won twice the second class prize of National Natural Sciences, Bau Family Award for worldwide eminent Chinese scientists in inorganic chemistry , the sixth Chinese Young Women in Science Award, and has been the leader of a number of national key scientific research projects.

IUPAC Distinguished Women in Chemistry/Chemical Engineering Award was initiated by IUPAC in 2011, to recognize and honor female scientists and engineers worldwide who have made outstanding contributions in the field of chemistry and chemical engineering, once every two years.
