Jia Gensuo appointed as member of ICSU Regional Scientific Committee for Asia and the Pacific

Recently, Prof. Jia Gensuo from the Institute of Atmospheric Physics, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) was appointed member of the Regional Scientific Committee for Asia and the Pacific of the International Council for Science (ICSU), whose term of office will last till 2019. The aim of the Committee is to guide the activities of the Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, one of the three regional offices created by ICSU to support scientific networks in their regions, facilitate the participation of scientists from developing countries in the activities of ICSU and its Members, and ensure that the ICSU strategy and activities are responsive to the needs of developing countries. The Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific was inaugurated in 2006 and is hosted by the Malaysian Academy of Sciences in Kuala Lumpur.
There are 24 members on the Regional Scientific Committee for Asia and the Pacific who are nominated by ICSU National Members of the region and appointed by ICSU after examination. Since its creation, two Chinese scientists nominated by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) -- Prof. Zhang Kan and Prof. Zhang Jianxin -- have served as members of the Committee.
