The International Astronautical Federation is the world’s leading non-governmental organisation in space industry. In 1980, approved by the relevant Chinese government departments, the Chinese Society of Astronautics became one of its member organisations. The two sides have maintained long-term friendly cooperation and successfully held large-scale academic events in China. To deepen their cooperation, with the support and approval of IAF, CAS initiated the establishment of “International Astronautical Federation Special Committee on Satellite Commercial Application”. Following nearly 10 months of preparation, the two sides co-hosted the Conference on the Establishment of the International Astronautical Federation Special Committee on Satellite Commercial Application and the Plaque Awarding Ceremony of the Asia Pacific Office in Hong Kong. The Special Committee aims to promote international cooperation in the commercial application of satellites and prompt the global development of this field. The establishment of a branch office in Hong Kong indicates the great attention attached to the development of satellite commercial application by IAF as an international academic organisation and it is also an attempt of IAF and CSA to promote the regional integration of academic, application and commercial sectors.
