ECOSOC took note of the quadrennial report submitted by CAST

On April 29th, China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) received an email from Mr. Marc-André Dorel, Acting Chief of NGO Branch, Office for ECOSOC Support and Coordination, UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs, informing that Economic and Social Council, at its Substantive Session 2017 on 19 April 2017, decided to take note of the quadrennial report submitted by CAST.

Under ECOSOC resolution 1996/31, NGOs in general and special consultative status must submit to the Committee on NGOs every four years, a brief report of their activities in support of the work of the United Nations. This is the 3rd quadrennial report submitted by CAST, since having been granted the special consultative status with ECOSOC in 2004. In the report, CAST highlighted its participation in UN's work and activities in the fields of emission reduction, public health, poverty alleviation, data openness and sharing, internet governance as a science and technology community from 2012 to 2016.

The Economic and Social Council is at the heart of the United Nations system to advance the three dimensions of sustainable development – economic, social and environmental. It is the central platform for fostering debate and innovative thinking, forging consensus on ways forward, and coordinating efforts to achieve internationally agreed goals. It is also responsible for the follow-up to major UN conferences and summits.
