CAST brings together international S&T organizations to help “Belt and Road” construction

2017-05-24

With the development of globalization, international S&T organizations play an irreplaceable role in global governance. In order to bring together international S&T organizations to help "Belt and Road" construction, the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) encourages its affiliated national academic societies to work with those international organizations to which they adhere to build international cooperation platforms, set up international communication networks, strengthen the cooperation with international S&T organizations in "Belt and Road" construction areas, in order to achieve sharing of S&T resources and joint training of talents, and to work together on the "Belt and Road" initiative.

With the support of CAST, the Digital Silk Road Alliance was inaugurated in Australia by the International Society for Digital Earth (ISDE). The alliance is designed to become a platform for broadened cooperation between S&T communities of countries along the Belt and Road routes and related international S&T organizations and initiatives, strengthen its role as a think tank to advance research and international collaboration in the area of digital earth science in the region, and improve the participating partners' capacity of serving sustainable development. The founding members of the alliance include the Group on Earth Observations (GEO), ICSU Committee on Data for Science and Technology (CODATA), the Global Spatial Data Infrastructure Association (GSDI), the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC), the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (INSTeG-UTM), Neogeography R&D Group, the Bulgarian Cartographic Association, Masaryk University and other international organizations and institutions.

Supported by CAST, The Chinese Anti-Cancer Association (CACA) set up the first Asia-European joint training center on cancer – the "Belt and Road" international training center for professionals on cancer prevention and treatment. The center has reached extensive concensus with WHO International Agency of Research on Cancer, the European Institute of Oncology, and other cancer research agencies in Jordan, Israel, Malaysia, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Turkey, Russia, Japan and South Korea, which agree to work together with CACA to advance the international cancer prevention and control.
