The 32nd CASTIC successfully closed

The 32nd China Adolescents Science & Technology Innovation Contest (CASTIC), hosted by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the General Administration of Sport, the National Natural Science Foundation, the Communist Youth League Central Committee, the All-China Women's Federation, the State Intellectual Property Office and the Zhejiang Provincial People's Government, was closed in Hangzhou. Li Yuanchao, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice President of the State, watched the project presentation and attended the closing ceremony. He expressed his hope that young people would keep in mind the General Secretary Xi Jinping’s instruction and would have the resolve from a young age to make a due contribution to the Chinese Dream -- build China into a world science and technology power and achieve the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Wan Gang, Vice Chairman of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), President of CAST and Minister of Science and Technology attended the closing ceremony and presented the award for the winners of the “President of CAST Award” which is designed to encourage young people who love science and embrace innovation, and aims at the most innovative, scientific and practical youth projects in the contest.


More than 500 young science and technology enthusiasts from all over the country and over 200 children’s science instructors, as well as youth representatives from more than 20 countries and regions participated in the contest. At the project presentation, Li Yuanchao interacted with the participants, inquired in detail about their ideas of design, and encouraged them to turn fantastic ideas into the driving force of the future scientific exploration and innovation and make the contest a starting point of their lifelong dedication to science and technology.


Li Yuanchao said at the closing ceremony that the CPC is about to convene the 19th National Congress to embark in a journey of constructing a new modernized socialist country. The young people are fortunate to live in the time of national prosperity and renaissance. We hope that they will learn from their predecessors and set up the goal of serving their mother country with scientific achievements from a young age so as to contribute to the construction of a world science and technology power.

 They are encouraged to maintain a curious mind, pursue their science dreams relentlessly with great enthusiasm and lead a wonderful life of science. They are encouraged to adhere to the scientific spirit and ethics in their exploration and practice so that the lighthouse of science will guide them on their way forward.

Shang Yong, Secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group, Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Secretary of CAST, Yuan Jiajun, Deputy Secretary of CPC Zhejiang Committee and governor of Zhejiang Province, Deng Li, Vice President and Executive Secretary of the All-China Women's Federation, and Xu Yanhao, Deputy Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group, Vice President and Executive Secretary of CAST, attended the closing ceremony and presented awards for the award-winning students. About 1,500 people, including participating students, instructors, team leaders and groups of visitors throughout the country were present at the closing ceremony.

Yuan Yaxiang, Vice President of CAST and Deputy Director of CASTIC Jury, made a review report at the closing ceremony. Respectively, 58, 134 and 177 winners of the First, Second and Third Prize were announced in the category of Youth Innovation Project; 31, 70 and 99 winners of the First, Second and Third Prize were respectively announced in the category of the Innovation Project of Children’s Science Instructors; 10 Science Instructors won the “Top Ten Science Instructors of Excellence” Award; of the international participating projects, 5, 12 and 18 won the First, Second and Third Prize respectively. The highest award of the contest “President of CAST Award” went to three students -- Chen Tinghan from Tsinghua University High School, Liu Dongze from Chaoyang Campus of the High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China and Yu Haoran from the Middle School Attached to the University of Science and Technology of China.

The CASTIC flag was handed over at the closing ceremony by Shang Yong from Feng Fei, member of the Standing Committee of CPC Provincial Committee and Executive Vice Governor of Zhejiang to Wu Cunrong, Member of the Standing Committee of CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee, Vice Mayor and Deputy Secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group of Chongqing Municipal Government as the next contest will be held in the city of Chongqing. Dr. Han Xiqiu, the first female chief scientist in China’s history of maritime exploration, made a keynote speech, “My Deep Sea Exploration Tour”, at the closing ceremony, showing the real scene in the depths of the ocean and the story of China’s deep sea expedition team.

The 32nd CASTIC lasted 6 days. Educational events and exchanges, including Science and Education Forum, Intellectual Property Seminar, Maker Experience, Science Workshop for Science Instructors were organized during the contest.
