Wu conveyed her warm welcome to Urrutia and briefed the history, organizational structure and the missions of CAST. Then, she elaborated on CAST’s efforts in enhancing public science literacy, inspiring scientific innovation among the young generation, organizing cutting-edge and high-level academic conferences and building high-end think tanks with global prestige. She said that China and Mexico could improve bilateral exchanges and cooperation in science popularization, think tank building and so on, and CAST could act as a bridge between Chinese scientific societies and their Mexican counterparts to help with their communication and cooperation.
Urrutia expressed his admiration for CAST’s achievements. As he put it, science popularization is also an important undertaking in Mexico, which means there is great potential for the two countries to cooperate with each other in this regard. He introduced the organization and function of the Science Advisory Council to Mexican President, one of Mexico’s leading think tanks. He said that the science communities of the two countries currently were facing a good historic opportunity for cooperation. He hoped that Mexican scientists could participate more actively in major activities of CAST, and the professional societies in Mexico could strengthen their cooperation with CAST affiliated societies.
