Executive vice president of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) Huai Jinpeng, at the invitation of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters and the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, led a delegation of CAST to visit Norway and Sweden from June 23 to 29, 2018.
The delegation also visited the Norwegian Institute of Bio-economy Research (NIBIO) and the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, and held talks with heads of the institutes.
Huai made a speech entitled “Understanding, Trust and Cooperation” at the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences on June 26.
He preached China’s new concepts of development, the practice of innovative development and the conception of a community with shared future for mankind in his speech.
Additionally, Huai introduced the vision, mission and tasks of CAST, and advocated the establishment of a new mechanism for cooperation in scientific innovation with CAST’s counterparts in Sweden, which arouse strong repercussions.
After the meeting, Huai and the president of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, Prof. Tuula Teeri, on behalf of the two sides respectively, signed a cooperative agreement.
The delegation also explored the Robotdalen, HUAWEI Sweden Research Institute, ABB (Asea Brown Boveri) Group and a science park.
They widely met with senior figures in the science communities and industries, and convened a number of symposiums.
The discussions were focused on topics of science policy, scientific and technological innovation, the integration of technology and economic society, the exchange of young scientists, scientific education and science communication, etc.
Their discussions also went deeply into the establishment of a new model for bilateral and multilateral cooperation. A high degree of consensus on strengthening non-governmental scientific and technological exchanges were reached during meetings.
The CAST delegation also invited experts from Norway and Sweden to attend the upcoming World Conference on Science Literacy, which will be held in Beijing this September .

The visit has increased consensus and deepened understanding between CAST and its counterparts in Norway and Sweden.
Thus, CAST opened up new channels for cooperation with the related scientific and technological organizations, research institutions and industrial circles in Norway and Sweden.
The organization also deepened the cooperation with the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences and other institutions, and widened the cooperation platform.
