In commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the founding of China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Voice of Science Choir of CAST, a chorus concert was held under the theme of “Love for the Republic” at the Concert Hall of Minzu University of China in Beijing on Aug. 25, 2018.
Honorary president of CAST Han Qide attended the concert. He fully recognized the choir’s persistent pursuit of carrying forward the Chinese scientific spirit in the past 30 years, and expressed his willingness to join the choir and participate in related activities.
Executive secretary of CAST Chen Gang and Wu Haiying presented the honorary certificates to eight members of the choir who had served the team for 30 years.

At the concert, the choir sang their self-composed songs to praise scientific and technological workers, such as the Lights of Science City, and the Way to Fly, which is the theme song of the literature documentary Qian Xuesen. Academician Qian Xuesen is a prominent Chinese aerodynamicist and cyberneticist.
Members of the choir also put on some classic foreign language songs, like НОЧЕВАЛА ТУЧКА ЗОЛОТАЯ (The Night of the Gold Cloud) , Beautiful dreamer, Il est bel et bon (It is all Well and Good) and so on.
The performance came to its climax when Han Qide, Chen Gang, Wu Haiying, and the composer Liu Weiguang joined in the chorus of Love for the Republic, the song, composed by Liu Yiran and Liu Weiguang, eulogizes the patriotic dedication of the older generation of Chinese scientists, their noble qualities and rustic feelings, such as Academician Qian Xuesen and Deng Jiaxian, another famous Chinese nuclear physicist. It has been widely sung among generations of scientific and technological workers.
The choir performed under the conduction of Li Moran, the tutor of the department of theoretical composing and conducting of Music College of the Capital Normal University, and was accompanied on the piano by Dr. Huang Yaqian from the Piano Department of China Conservatory of Music (CCMUSIC).
Founded in 1988, the Voice of Science Choir of CAST is composed of scientists and technicians who love chorus art. Most of them are from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Peking University, Beihang University, China Agricultural University, and other universities and research institutes. And more than 60 percent of the members have got high-ranking academic titles.
The choir aims to provide services for intellectuals in science and education, as well as the general public. Members of the choir have actively participated in a number of major events in science and technology community and performed in many important international academic activities in the past 30 years. Their performances have shown the grace and versatility of Chinese scientists and technologists.
The chorus concert also featured some senior fellows of related departments and institutions of CAST, the portal site Wenming, China Beijing TV Station (BTV), the China International Association for Urban and Rural Development (CIAD), as well as 500 scientists and technicians.
