CAST high-ranking officials are invited to give a press briefing held by the Information Office of the State Council on Sep. 6, 2018.
The World Conference on Science Literacy, an event initiated by the China Association for Science and Technology, will be held at the National Conference Center, Beijing from September 17 to 19.
As the first global conference dedicated to promoting public science literacy, the event is themed “promoting public science literacy and building a community with a shared future for mankind.”
Over 40 activities will take place during the conference that fall into three major categories, meetings, exhibitions and specialized events.
China’s 2018 National Science Popularization Day, the most participated science festival in the world, will be observed during the conference.
An international exhibition on science popularization works will be another highlight of the conference.
Many international organizations, government agencies, non-governmental organizations for science and technology, science dissemination organizations, universities and research institutions that are committed to raising public science literacy will send representatives to the conference. Scientific, educational and business personages will also be among the attendees.
The conference is designed to build international platforms and mechanisms for achieving extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits in global work to raise public science literacy. Through gaining government support and pooling the resources of the general public as well as the sci-tech, educational, media and corporate communities, the platforms and mechanisms are expected to help narrow the gap in public science literacy across the globe, release the positive power of science and technology, advance the well-being of mankind and create a better future.
As human beings all live on the same beautiful planet, interdependent and sharing a common future, and as the scientific revolution marches on and globalization goes deeper in today’s world, the international community has reached a high degree of consensus: Raising public science literacy and increasing public sci-tech understanding and engagement concern the all-round development of individuals and the sustainable development of the economy and society, the tackling of global challenges relating to science and technology and the development of human society, and the joint building of an open, inclusive, clean and beautiful world that enjoys lasting peace, universal security and common prosperity.
