Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, visited China Science and Technology Museum in Beijing on September 17 to attend activities to observe the National Science Popularization Day, together with Huang Kunming, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, Cai Qi, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, and Wan Gang, president of China Association for Science and Technology (CAST).

Wang pointed out that General Secretary Xi Jinping's important instructions on scientific and technological innovation and science popularization must be implemented and continued effort must be made to further popularize science, promote public's science literacy and stimulate innovation-driven development to lay a solid basis for supporting China's effort to become a power in science and technology.
The National Science Popularization Day activities in Beijing this year attracted people of all walks of life and youths of the capital city.
At the museum, Wang was introduced to such exhibits as water conservancy machinery of ancient China, 5G intelligent manufacturing, the model of the Zhuhai-Hong Kong-Macao Bridge, superconducting materials, artificial intelligence, and phonograph made by youths.
Wang stressed during the visit the need to strengthen international exchanges on science popularization and promote sharing the high-quality science popularization resources. He said that it is necessary to carry forward the innovative spirit and enhance self- confidence in achieving innovation in the society. Science popularization must be conducted for the benefit of the people and scientific achievements should be showcased to the public.
Wang also emphasized the importance to communicate science to the youth to arouse their passion for science and awareness of innovation, and urged associations for science and technology at different levels to advance science popularization throughout the society with platforms such as "China Science Communication," an internet-based science communication initiative of CAST.
18,000 science communication activities will be organized across China to mark the 2018 National Science Popularization Day around a theme focused on innovation and smart life.
