Huai Jinpeng, executive vice president and chief executive secretary of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) met Ma Huateng, chairman of the Board of Directors, chief executive officer of Tencent and president of Tencent Association for Science and Technology, at China Hall of Science and Technology in Beijing on Oct. 15, 2018.
In China, scientific and technological professionals working in enterprises can gather to set up enterprise associations for science and technology with the aim to better serve the development of the enterprises and improve the scientific literacy of the employees. Tencent Association for Science and Technology is one of them.
The two sides had a talk on the vision of strategic cooperation between CAST and Tencent.
Huai expressed his welcome to Ma Huateng and his delegation. He applauded Tencent's contribution to promote IT-based science communication and fund talents in industry, universities and research institutions.
Huai said that with its 210 national member societies covering a wide range of science, engineering, agriculture, medicine and interdisciplinary fields, CAST has the advantage to enhance inter-disciplinary integration and promote mobility of science and technology professionals of different sectors.
CAST hopes to enhance in-depth cooperation with Tencent in training innovative talents and combining scientific and technological enterprises of the same kind. The two sides can also further promote IT-based science communication and build international platform for young scientists to exchange ideas, noted Huai.
Thus, the aim of integrating the enterprises of different sizes and converging science with economy could be achieved, and a sound industrial ecology could be obtained, Huai concluded.
Ma thanked CAST for its long-term support to Tencent.
With the awareness of the opportunities the times brings about and the support the State provides, Tencent should shoulder more social responsibilities and make due contributions, said Ma.
Tencent will continue the cooperation with CAST to promote the IT-based Science Communication Project into a wider application, such as carrying out active exploration in promoting popular science hotspots, pushing popular science into mobile games, debunking scientific rumours, and building a platform to industrialize science fiction, said Ma.
This year Tencent has set up its own association for science and technology, and took the lead in building the intelligent computing technology combo featuring the fusion of industry, universities and research institutes. Tencent is also engaged in carrying out innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives to inject fresh energy to the newly-established combo, added Ma.
Tencent is willing to join hands with CAST to build up an information exchange platform between industry and the academia to contribute to the national strategy and public welfare, concluded Ma.
Executive secretary of CAST Shu Wei, together with the heads from relevant departments of CAST attended the meeting.
