The 2018 World Intelligent Manufacturing Summit (WIMS) kicked off in Nanjing on Oct. 12, 2018. Meng Qinghai, vice president and executive secretary of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) attended and spoke at the main forum, which was chaired by Ma Qiulin, vice governor of Jiangsu Province.
Meng pointed out in his speech that as a major trend of industrial development in the future, intelligent manufacturing is becoming the commanding height of global manufacturing revolution and technological innovation.
Meng said, with the huge development opportunity in the making in intelligent manufacturing, cultivating the intelligent manufacturing industry and upgrading the traditional industries with intelligent manufacturing have become an important breakthrough point for China to revitalize its real economy and build a modern economic system.
As an important part of the national innovation system, CAST has always attached great importance to and supported the development of intelligent manufacturing technology and industry, Meng emphasized.
CAST has promoted the establishment of the combo of the related member societies on intelligent manufacturing and focused on building a platform in intelligent manufacturing for collaborative innovation, joint research and sharing resources, added Meng.
CAST will actively implement the comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement signed with Jiangsu Provincial government to develop a series of influential academic activities of "conference, exhibition, contest and business", and help Jiangsu build up a group of globally influential industrial sci-tech innovation centers and internationally competitive manufacturing bases, concluded Meng.
The 2018 WIMS was co-sponsored by CAST, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and Jiangsu Provincial People's Government with the theme of "Empowering the Future through Intelligent Manufacturing". The summit included four parts - WIMS Launch Event, WIMS Forum, WIMS Carnival, and WIMS Expo.
Nearly 10,000 guests including academicians, senior scientists, engineers, industrial leaders, representatives of institutes and 1953 enterprises from more than 10 countries such as China, the US, the UK, Germany, France, Sweden, Austria, Greece, Japan, and Singapore, attended the summit.
Wu Zhenglong, deputy secretary of the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee and governor of the Jiangsu Province, Xin Guobin, member of the Leading Party Members' Group and vice minister of Industry and Information Technology, and Zhong Zhihua, vice president and member of the Leading Party Members' Group of the CAE attended the main forum.
During the summit, Meng also visited Jiangsu Association for Science and Technology, Hexi Branch of Jinling Middle School, Qixia District Sci-tech Service Station and other organizations. He investigated CAST’s programs of the IT-based science communication, science education for children & youth, and science communication actions at grassroot levels in Jiangsu Province. The heads of the relevant department of CAST, Jiangsu and Nanjing associations for science and technology joined the investigation.
