CSTM holds serial activities for 3rd lecture of Tiangong classroom

2022-10-17

The China Science and Technology Museum (CSTM) held serial warming-up and outreach activities to accompany the 3rd lecture of the Tiangong classroom which was given by Chen Dong, Liu Yang and Cai Xuzhe, Taikonauts of the Shenzhou-14 flight crew, from the outer space to teenagers on the earth on October 12, 2022.

The event was featured with real-time interaction between Taikonauts and young students and live streamed around the world.

As the China Space Station Science and Innovation Experience Base, the CSTM has launched serial activities for the first two lectures of the Tiangong classroom.

After the 2nd lecture, the CSTM initiated a program to solicit creative experiments from teenagers to be demonstrated in the China Space Station.

After careful evaluation and improvement, 6 experiments, including capillary effect, "lazy" water polo, and U-turn spanner, were screened out.

Experimental equipment and materials were carried into the China space station by the Shenzhou-14 spacecraft.

In order to amplify the effect of the 3rd lecture of the Tiangong Classroom, the CSTM invited Yang Liwei, first astronaut of China, deputy chief designer of China's manned space engineering, academician of the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA), and China’s areospace hero, and experts in the fields of aerospace, physics, biology and others to guide the participating teenagers to experience the great difference between the outer space and the earth through comparative experiments and hands-on exhibits to acquire a clear understanding of the significance of the China Space Station as a national space laboratory to boost economic development and change people’s lives.

Yin Hao, member of the leading Party members group, executive secretary of the Secretariat of CAST, and curator of the CSTM, attended the event and had in-depth discussions with the experts and scholars.

The event was live streamed on mainstream media platforms including CSTM official Baidu account, CSTM official Weibo account, CSTM official Jinritoutiao account, CCTV news app, CCTV news official Weibo account, Tencent News, Tiktok, Kuaishou.

As of October 12, 2022, the total number of viewers on various platforms exceeded 30 million.

During the event, Yang Liwei, Yin Rui, deputy commander in chief of the astronaut system of the China Manned Space (CMS), senior engineer of the China Astronaut Research and Training Center, Chen Zheng, deputy head of the science popularization lecturer group of the CSTM, associate professor of Beijing Jiaotong University, and other experts and scholars facilitated the participating students to carry out the experiments on the earth synchronously.

They explained relevant scientific principles and answered questions raised by young students, guiding the participating students to perceive the mysteries of the universe and experience the fun of scientific exploration.

At the time when the nation is welcoming the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), it is of great significance for the CSTM to initiate the event.

The CSTM will join hands with relevant sci-tech institutions to develop science education programs to demonstrate the great achievements China has made under the leadership of the CPC.

The CSTM will make full use of its collections including the return capsule of Shenzhou-1 and core capsule module of Tianhe to promote the Spirit of Chinese Scientists, and initiate more science education activities to welcome the convening of the 20th National Congress of the CPC.
