He Junke meets with AAAS CEO Sudip Parikh

He Junke, Secretary of the leading Party members group and Executive President of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), met with Sudip Parikh, CEO of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and Executive Publisher of the Science family of journals in Beijing on May 22, 2024.

Also present at the event was Luo Hui, Executive Secretary and Director General of the Department of International Affairs of CAST. 

The two sides recalled with satisfaction the partnership over the past years.

They believed that with the rapid development of science and technology, exchanges and cooperation between the sci-tech circles of China and the United States will benefit both sides. As the largest multidisciplinary scientific organizations of the two countries, CAST and AAAS will face difficulties to further expanding their cooperation.

The two sides raised ideas on the next step of cooperation to explore mechanism for dialogue among scientists, enhance exchanges among young scientists, and cooperate in STM journals.

The AAAS is the world's largest multidisciplinary scientific society and a leading publisher of cutting-edge research through its Science family of journals, AAAS has individual members in more than 91 countries around the globe.

CAST and the AAAS established ties in 1978. In 2022, the two sides renewed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation.

This is Parikh's first visit to China since serving as CEO of the AAAS in January 2020.

Officers of the Department of Strategic Development, the Department of  International Cooperation of CAST, as well as the China Centre for International Science and Technology Exchange (CISTE) and the Science and Technology Review Publishing House were in attendance at the event.
