2024 National Science Popularization Day Program celebrated

Under the theme of "Enhance the scientific literacy of Chinese citizens and collaborate in building a nation with strength in science and technology", and co-organized by 22 organs including the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the Office of the Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission of the CPC, the Ministry of Education (MoE), the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST), the 2024 National Science Popularization Day Program was launched nationwide with the main venue anchored in China’s capital city Beijing from September 15 to 25, 2024.

This year's event focused on science popularization frontier issues and carried out serial science education activities to enhance scientific literacy of 5 targeted groups including college students, young sci-tech professionals, civil servants and the general public.

On the morning of September 24, representatives of the 22 co-organizers gathered at the National Communication Center for Science and Technology affiliated to CAST (NCCST) and the China Science and Technology Museum (CSTM) to participate in the main venue activities.

Wan Gang, President of CAST, together with other leading figures exchanged ideas with the participating college students and young sci-tech professionals.

Wan encouraged the youngsters to acquire an understanding of the advancements of science and technology, and pay efforts to transform sci-tech achievements into real productivity.

At the activity of "Scientists and youngsters building the future" at the China Science and Technology Museum (CSTM), Wan Gang, President of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) exchanges ideas with the youngsters about the solar panels issues in building a simulated extraterrestrial research station. Wan encourages the youngsters to devote themselves to S&T careers in the future.

Wan Gang noted that while we are going all out to build a great modern socialist country in all respects and pursue national rejuvenation through a Chinese path to modernization, we should not only remember the outstanding contribution of ancient sci-tech civilization, but also promote the rapid development of science and technology in modern countries.

Wan expressed his expectation that the young generation would take concrete actions to get engaged in both sci-tech innovation and communication, integrating their personal ideals with national priorities to build China a nation with strength in science and technology.

The National Science Popularization Day Program is an important public-oriented event that implements The Law of the People's Republic of China on Popularization of Science and Technology to mobilize the broad mass of sci-tech professionals and all sectors of society to get engaged in science communication activities nationwide.

As of September 22 this year, a total of 70,000 science communication bodies have been mobilized and more than 200,000 activities have been held.
