Wan Gang meets with APS President Young-Kee Kim

Wan Gang, President of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), met with Young-Kee Kim, President of the American Physical Society (APS) and her delegation in Beijing on October 9, 2024.


The two sides exchanged views on topics related to strengthening scientific and humanity exchanges and cooperation between China and the United States (US).


Also present at the event were Zhang Jie, President of the Chinese Physical Society (CPS) and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and Luo Hui, Executive Secretary of the Leading Party Members Group, and Director General of the Department of International Affairs of CAST.

Wan Gang briefed the attendees that CAST is committed to enhancing openness, mutual trust, and win-win cooperation with the international sci-tech community to promote people-to-people exchanges.


Wan noted that the sci-tech societies and scientists play an important role in initiating dialogues and enhancing mutual understanding and trust between the two countries.


He reiterated that CAST would provide continuous support for the APS and the CPS to deepen exchanges and cooperation in the future. He expected that the two societies would make efforts to promote the mobility of young scientists and carry out more cooperation in the field of STM journals to jointly address global challenges.


Kim stressed that the APS would provide support and participate in international sci-tech cooperation under the guiding principles of integrity, transparency, and mutual benefit.


She noted that the APS looks forward to strengthening cooperation with its peer organizations in China to enhance mutual understanding and trust in sci-tech circles.


Also present at the meeting were the heads from the Department of International Affairs of CAST and the CPS.
