Joint efforts to boost young scientists' growth
On October 22, at the 2024 World Science and Technology Development Forum (WSTDF 2024), the International Science Council (ISC) and the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) jointly announced the launch of the ISC early- to mid-career researchers exchange program, aimed at amplifying the voice of young scientists from China and abroad in international science and policy arenas.
Researchers in the early to mid-stages of their careers frequently confront difficulties in obtaining funding and gathering resources for their scholarly pursuits.
They need mentorship and the establishment of collaborative relationships within the scientific community.
In response, the program will undertake initiatives including training on international scientific leadership and science podcast production and dissemination, visiting scholar fellowship on sustainable development, and support for young scientists to attend international scientific conferences. The program is set to run for two years.
Sponsored by CAST, and under the theme of "Science and Technology for the Future," the main venue of the WSTDF 2024 was anchored in China’s capital city Beijing, in which 6 thematic sessions, 3 roundtable dialogues, and bundles of scientific and humanity exchange activities were held centering on topics including innovation in artificial intelligence governance, interdisciplinary integration and development, and open science infrastructure.
