The 16th Asia Pacific Physics Conference held in Haikou

On the morning of October 20, 2025, the 16th Asia Pacific Physics Conference opened in Haikou, Hainan Province. The conference was hosted by the Association of Asia Pacific Physical Societies and the Chinese Physical Society, aiming to provide a platform for scholars to share the latest scientific achievements and to foster communication and deepen friendships among participants.

The five-day conference featured 10 parallel sessions covering multiple frontier fields such as particles and fields, condensed matter physics, atomic molecular physics and optics. Special sessions were also held, including those for Women in Physics, Physics and Artificial Intelligence, the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, and Face-to-Face with Physics Editors. Over 750 physics scholars from universities and research institutions, both domestic and international, attended the conference and engaged in extensive exchanges.

Prior to the opening ceremony, a special session was held in memory of Professor Chen-Ning Yang, during which all attendees stood in silent tribute. Zhang Jie, President of the Chinese Physical Society and a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, presided over the memorial session. He noted that Professor Yang was instrumental in founding the Association of Asia Pacific Physical Societies and served as its first president, making significant contributions to physics exchange and cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region. His scientific spirit will continue to inspire scholars.

The opening ceremony also included the presentation of the 14th Chen-Ning Yang Award. The award recipients expressed their deep admiration for Professor Yang’s outstanding contributions to physics and paid high tribute to his long-standing care and support for young scholars.

The event is part of a series of activities organized for the CAST International Month 2025: Openness, Cooperation, Trust. Held under the theme “S.T.I. Bridges, Humanity Orients,” International Month 2025 brings international science and technology organizations, local governments, national societies, and provincial associations together to deepen dialogue and expand cooperation between Chinese and international scientists for shared progress.
