AI empowerment requires balancing product competitiveness, corporate creativity and management competence. (By Liu Zongwei)
On September 29, the “Focus Dialogue: AI-Driven Transformation of the R&D and Production Organizations Model of Automobiles” was held during the 7th World New Energy Vehicle Congress (WNEVC 2025) at the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center. The event is part of the CAST International Month 2025: Openness, Cooperation, Trust.
Liu Zongwei, Assistant Director and Associate Research Fellow of the Automotive Research Institute at Tsinghua University, attended the event and shared his insights on topics such as “Prospects of AI Applications in the Automotive Industry.”
Liu proposed an integrated framework of vertically combining product competitiveness, corporate creativity and management competence, and horizontally balancing AI agent applications, models, data and computing power. He emphasized that AI’s role extends beyond enhancing product competitiveness—it is more critical in driving corporate creativity and management competence.
He highlighted that the combination of large AI models and specialized domain models will fundamentally reshape R&D logic. Traditional expertise and models must be digitized and integrated into unified platforms to maximize their value.
Looking ahead, Liu pointed out that organizational transformation will require not only internal collaborative structures but also the development of external capability ecosystems. This involves closer industry-academia-research collaboration and multi-stakeholder partnerships to drive innovation across the automotive sector.
