Beijing, January 14, 2026 -- Wan Gang, President of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), held talks in Beijing with Sir Paul Nurse, President of the Royal Society of the United Kingdom (RS) and Nobel laureate in Physiology or Medicine.
The two sides exchanged views on deepening scientific exchanges and institutional cooperation between China and the United Kingdom.
Wan briefed the British delegation on China’s latest advances in artificial intelligence, life sciences and new-energy vehicles, and called for closer collaboration in these fields to steer technology toward the common good and benefit society.
He noted that, as the respective scientific communities of the two countries, the CAST and the RS could jointly promote the development of STM journals, foster public understanding and engagement with science, and facilitate exchanges -- especially among young scientists -- while enhancing coordination within international organizations.
Nurse said the RS will actively promote more practical cooperation under the existing memorandum of understanding. By strengthening interaction between the Chinese and British scientific communities, he added, the two sides can send a positive signal to the world and sustain an environment of openness, trust and collaboration in global science.
Senior officials from CAST’s General Office, Department of Sci-tech Innovation, Department of Science Popularization and Department of International Affairs attended the meeting.
