• Wan Gang meets with president of Friedrich Ebert-Stiftung e.V.

    Wan Gang, president of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), met with Martin Schulz, president of the Friedrich Albert Foundation (Friedrich Ebert-Stiftung e.V.) in Germany and former president of the European Parliament, in Beijing on February 6, 2024.


    The two sides exchanged views related to sci-tech cooperation between China and Germany, and China and Europe as well.



    Wan Gang warmly welcomed Schultz and his delegation.


    He briefed the guests about CAST’s major priorities in promoting academic exchanges, providing science communication services and conducting international exchanges and cooperation.


    He expounded CAST’s status in boosting the overall performance of China’s innovation system as a mass organization of sci-tech professionals.


    Wan expressed his hope that China and Germany can carry out exchanges and cooperation in the fields of addressing climate change, developing renewable energy, protecting biodiversity, boosting the development of new energy vehicles (NEVs) and strengthening relevant infrastructure construction.


    He hoped the above mentioned efforts could lead to enhancement of people-to-people exchanges and win-win results in achieving common development.


    Schultz applauded China's amazing achievements in NEVs and photovoltaic power generation.


    He hoped that China and Germany could strengthen scientific and cultural exchanges, initiate dialogues among scientists and technologists to enhance mutual trust.


    He encouraged the two civilizations to seek common ground while shelving their differences, and learn from one another.


    Schultz and his delegation visited the History display of CAST in the China Hall of Science and Technology (CHST).


    Shi Mingde, President of the China-Germany Friendship Association (CGFA, Gesellschaft Fuer die Chinesisch-Deutsche), and relevant officials from the Chinese Association for International Understanding and the Department of  International Affairs of CAST attended the meeting.
