Chinese and Swedish experts convene in Beijing to advance bilateral scientific collaboration
Beijing, April 21 -- Leading scientists and institutional leaders from China and Sweden gathered in Beijing on Tuesday for the China-Sweden science and technology roundtable dialogue.
Co-hosted by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA), the event focused on fostering deeper cooperation across medicine, artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, and life sciences.
Sharing the latest research frontiers
During the dialogue, prominent Chinese experts shared insights on the current policy landscape and recent breakthroughs in their respective fields. The delegation included:
Ji Xunming, President of both the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CAMS) and Peking Union Medical College (PUMC);
Yan Ning, Dean of the Shenzhen Medical Academy of Research and Translation (SMART);
Gao Fu, President of the Chinese Society of Biotechnology (CSBT) and Vice President of the Chinese Medical Association (CMA);
Jiang Jiandong, Tenured Professor at PUMC;
Zhang Yanchuan, Vice President of the China Institute of Communications (CIC);
Liu Chenglin, Vice President of the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence (CAAI);
Ouyang Zheng, Vice President of the Chinese Society for Measurement (CSM);
Shen Weiming, Deputy Director of the academic committee at the International Coalition of Intelligent Manufacturing (ICIM).
Strengthening institutional ties
The Swedish delegation featured high-level leadership from key national research and innovation bodies, including:
Sylvia Serger, President of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA);
Elin Elliot, Vice President of IVA;
Pia Sandvik, CEO of Swedish Tech Industry (TechSverige);
Malin Frenning, CEO of RISE Research Institutes of Sweden;
Bo Normark, Executive Director of Industrial Strategy at EIT InnoEnergy.
A roadmap for future cooperation
Marked by a collegial atmosphere, the roundtable facilitated active engagement between the two nations' scientific communities. Participants expressed a shared commitment to consolidating the outcomes of this dialogue and deepening pragmatic partnerships.
Experts from both sides emphasized the importance of launching diverse collaborative initiatives, including joint research projects, ongoing scientific discourse, and reciprocal talent exchange programs. The ultimate goal, they noted, is to propel China-Sweden sci-tech cooperation to greater depths, across broader fields, and to a higher level.
Officials from the Department of International Affairs of CAST and the China Center for International Science and Technology Exchange (CISTE) also attended the event.
