Wan Gang Meets with President of German Max Planck Society

Beijing, April 14 -- Wan Gang, President of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), met in Beijing on Tuesday with Patrick Cramer, President of the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science (Max-Planck-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Wissenschaften e.V.), and his delegation.

 

The two sides exchanged views on Sino-German technological development and exchanges and cooperation in the sci-tech community. Luo Hui, Executive Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of CAST, also attended the meeting.

 

Wan Gang briefed the German side on China's 15th Five-Year Plan Outline and the latest developments and practical achievements in areas including new energy vehicles and artificial intelligence.

 

He pointed out that against a complex and evolving international landscape and a profound restructuring of the global sci-tech architecture, the importance of Sino-German sci-tech exchanges and cooperation has become even more prominent.

 

He suggested that both sides could deepen practical cooperation in areas including new energy, life and health, research integrity, and science popularization.

 

He also proposed establishing exchange platforms for young scholars, promoting the better application of scientific research outcomes for public benefit, and jointly contributing to global sci-tech advances.

 

Cramer applauded China's achievements in science and technology, the economy, and society.

 

He noted that China is at the forefront of the world in the application of science and technology, and that the European scientific community places great importance on cooperation with China.

 

He expressed the hope that both sides would strengthen exchanges and mutual learning in areas including the transformation of sci-tech achievements and energy transition, work together to address global challenges including climate change and energy security, and leverage sci-tech cooperation to facilitate the sustainable development of humanity.

 

Also present at the meeting were relevant officials from the General Office, the Department of Sci-tech Innovation, the Department of Science Popularization, and the Department of International Affairs of CAST.
