The Chinese team wins gold medals at 32nd IOI

The 32nd International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI 2020) was held online from September 13 to 23, 2020.

Chinese mainland organized a strong team of 4 contestants to participate in the international science Olympiad. The team leader was Zhao Qiyang, vice chairman of the Scientific Committee of National Olympiad in Informatics (NOI) and associate professor of Beihang University, and the deputy team leader was Jiang Tingting, vice chairman of the Scientific Committee of NOI and associate professor of Peking University.

After practice test and two days of fierce competition, the 4 contestants all won gold medals, making Chinese team the only one with all gold medal winners in this year's competition.

Zhou Yuyang and Wang Zhanpeng from Shaoxing No. 1 High School in Zhejiang Province and Luo Yuxiang from Zhenhai High School of Ningbo in Zhejiang Province won the 3rd places in the competition. Jiang Mingrun from Chengdu No. 7 High School in Sichuan Province won the 7th place in the competition.

A total of 343 young students from 87 countries and regions take part in the competition, resulting in 29 gold medals, 57 silver medals and 85 bronze medals.

The Hong Kong team of China won 1 gold and 2 bronze medals, and the Taiwan team of China won 3 silver medals and 1 bronze medal.

The IOI is the most prestigious computer science competition for secondary school and high school students around the world. The competition is one of five international science Olympiads held annually. 

The Children & Youth Science Center (CYSC) of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) has selected a total of 127 young students through the NOI to participate in the IOI every year since 1989, winning 88 gold medals, 27 silver medals and 12 bronze medals, achieving excellent results of all team members winning gold medals for 10 times.
